Minutes of the Meeting of

the Board of Directors of the Merion Civic Association

2-22-22

 

Present: Lazar, Murphy, Gordon, Hill, Cleere, Greenberg, Halpern, Rutzel, Zerges, Feuer, Saltzberg, Bruckman, Seiden, Sylk, Guthrie

 

Presentation: Michael Schneller spoke about PECO energy assessments which include in person visit, written report, LED bulbs, incentive dollars for improvements.  It will evaluate where you’re losing energy and what solutions are possible, many which are inexpensive. A list of approved contractors will be provided. Also possible is a virtual assessment with a smart phone. Enhanced tests for homes with electric heat includes blower test. Treasurers Report: Revenue $2500, expenses $33.15, Total $33,673.

 

Federation of Civics spoke about problems with new SALDO code. One of the main points was the removal of subdivision and land development zoning codes, stripping out restrictions in SALDO which can affect the amount of impervious surface allowed. Nothing in code about dormitories.

There are requests for increased parking near transit. Discussion- enforcement of time restrictions has been inconsistent. Some commuters are coming from Delaware County to park. More study is needed.                                                                                                      Underpass under City Avenue is planned for St. Josephs and will take

                                

18- 24 months. Traffic will be diverted into neighborhoods and may be very disruptive.

 

St. Charles Seminary wants to go through the deconsecration process with all its sacred objects.  They have created a 77 page document that must be evaluated by the historical society, then the Commissioners will decide. Public meeting will be held Monday 2-28 at 7:30 pm.

 

Flag Day Event- Tuesday June 14, late afternoon

Looking for bands, considering different types. And food trucks. Suggestion for including library and firehouse table which can help build community.

 

Firehouse- Narberth did 400 calls, borough funded only $40,000 for replacement of apparatus.  People are encouraged to donate to support this service.

 

Community Watch is considering doggy walk event.

 

Station and Grounds- Saturday, May 7, 9:30 to plant window boxes.  Build On will again help.

 

Old Business-

Bible Way Baptist Church- 8 bags of clothing and $350 worth of food have been collected. This drive will continue.

Tree pruning workshop Sunday, March 13, 2-4 at Merion Botanical Garden by Orsi

Gardening myths and realities, March 15, 7:30 at BC Library by Orsi

Next meeting-Traffic engineering for St. Josephs. Brian Fenstermaaker, President and CEO of City Avenue Special Services District. He is experienced with urban development.
